Severn Biotechs range of high-quality agaroses are all prepared to exacting standards which ensure that our products can be relied on time after time to produce optimal performance. By altering critical characteristics, the agaroses have been developed to meet the specific requirements of a diverse range of applications. The main characteristics are:
Gels with low melting temperatures (below the temperature at which DNA denatures) allow DNA to remain intact on melting, thus enabling easy purification of nucleic acid using B-agarase. SB Low Gel and Recovery will remain liquid for several hours at temperatures compatible with many in-gel enzymatic reactions and can be performed without having to separate the nucleic acids for the media. High gel strength is important if the application involves handling and mechanical manipulation such as Southern or Northern Blotting. Finally the EEO (the movement of non-charged molecules through a medium towards the cathode during electrophoresis) of an agarose will determine the mobility of certain macromolecules within the gel. Low EEO values allow nucleic acids to migrate faster thereby improving their resolution since migration is determined by size only. The agaroses with Severn Biotechs range can be used for a wide variety of applications from nucleic acid separation to immunoelectrophoresis and from tissue cell culture to viral plaque assays. By far the most ubiquitous product is 40% Acrylamide concentrate, which can be used with Bis-acrylamide to formulate a number of different solutions to suit the researchers needs. The majority of Concentrates supplied are available with Bis in ratios 19:1 for DNA work, 37.5:1 for Protein separation through to higher ratios for specific molecular separation. Ready to Use products are made with lower concentrations of Acrylamide i.e. 4-6% with typical Bis ratios of 19:1, with the inclusion of the denaturant Urea (6-8 Molar) and zwitterionic buffer at a concentration of 1x TBE. Severn Biotech Ltd products are made to exacting standards and are tested for DNAase, RNase and Protease's, each lot is tested for performance to ensure there are no batch to batch variations. The pre-formulated Crystal Buffer range are designed for all your electrophoresis, blotting and hybridisation techniques. The product range includes different Tris buffers such as Tris Acetate, Tris Borate, SSC, SSPE. TBE Buffer To accompany the range of sequencing products Tris borate EDTA running buffer is supplied to contain the same batch reagents which are used in Sequencing gel products. Tris Borate EDTA buffer is made from Ultra pure molecular biology grade materials with a purity in excess of 99.8%. Bacterial filtered to remove the inclusion of nucleation centres, by the clarification of undissolved fine micro-crystallised material, TBE buffer is guaranteed to give perfect results. Tris Glycine The Crystal buffers have been made to exact formulations specified in various research papers or historically used to certain formulations which are already in widespread use. i.e. Sambrook, Fritsch and Maniatis. All buffer products are made from both molecular biology grade materials with ultrapure water and 0.2 micron filtered to ensure they are clarified and clear from nucleation points and tested for pH.
